What is your fondest memory of Orlando?

Orlando: The City Beautiful
Orlando's history dates back to 1838 and the height of the Seminole Wars. The U.S. Army built Fort Gatlin south of the present day Orlando city limits to protect settlers from attacks by indians.
By 1840, a small community had grown up around the fort. It was known as Jernigan, named after the Jernigan family, who had established the first permanent settlement in the area. Jernigan had a post office, established May 30th, 1850.
Six years later with the settlement expanding northward, the community officially changed its name to Orlando. In 1857, the U.S. post office adopted the name change. The town of Orlando was incorporated in 1875 with 85 inhabitants, 22 of whom were qualified voters.
Obviously, a lot has changed in Orlando since 1838. What is your favorite Orlando memory? Was it the first time you saw Mickey? Was it when you discovered the swans on Lake Eola? How about the time you first hiked along the Econ trail? Share your memory and include photos or other items that enhance your story.

I haven't lived in Orlando that long. I moved here in September of 1998. The first nice surprise about this city are all of the beautiful lakes and the trees heavy with spanish moss. I did not expect Orlando to have such pretty areas. I was born and raised in South Florida so the only thing I knew about Orlando is what I saw when I visited the theme parks.
Working for the Orlando Public Library downtown for almost 10 years I have really enjoyed what I consider my park.. Lake Eola. It's still incredible to me how many new species of birds I see here. Just a month ago I noticed that 2 geese are on the grounds. I guess like any older creature they are retiring in Florida. :)
I wish I could figure out how many times I have walked around that lake. I am so fortunate that I have a park so close to my workplace that I can get my energy back with the fresh air and the enjoying the lake, trees, flowers and "wildlife". It makes me wonder, how many people consider Lake Eola my park. I'm sure there are many.
